Meet Gretchen!
Gretchen is a very sweet, around 6-month-old girl who craves human attention and interaction. She came to us as a stray, found wandering an apartment building, and sadly, no one came to claim her. She was one of the skinniest dogs we've ever had, with every vertebra visible down her long tail! Gretchen is currently eating her way back to a healthy weight, weighing around 28 lbs. Her delicate fur coat is so fine that she doesn't even have fur on her abdomen, and she feels like velvet to the touch. It's clear she didn't have a great start in life, as she was never taught basic manners or housetraining. However, she is incredibly food-motivated and is learning very quickly! She does well with other dogs and has even done well around a confident office cat. Given her high energy, we don't recommend her for a home with cats until she's learned more manners.
Ideal Home
Gretchen would thrive in a home that can provide her with plenty of attention and opportunities to learn and grow. Due to her current high energy, we do not recommend her for a home with cats until she has learned more manners.
Ongoing Health
Gretchen is vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, and has been dewormed. She is still recovering from "happy tail," a condition where the tip of the tail bleeds from wagging it hard against surfaces. She is in the final stages of scabbing, and the wound hasn't been reopened in weeks. Gretchen also has a unique eye that sometimes wanders in the opposite direction, but there's nothing medically wrong with it – she simply has 180-degree vision!
Training & Support
Gretchen is very food-motivated and is learning new things rapidly. She was not previously housetrained or taught basic manners, so continued positive reinforcement training will be key to her success.
