Shayla

Meet Shayla, a delightful 5-year-old, 10-pound Chihuahua mix with a beautiful black and tan coat. Shayla is a diamond in the rough, having come to us after the passing of her beloved owner. While she initially struggled in a different home environment, which made her fearful and guarded, she blossoms into a completely different dog once she trusts you. She is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loving towards her people, showering them with kisses and enjoying leisurely lap time and belly rubs. Shayla has a ton of personality and a playful spirit; she loves her toys and can fetch for hours, and she even has more stamina than her foster siblings! She's also dominant among other dogs as she establishes pack order.

Ideal Home

Shayla would thrive in a patient home where she can take her time to build trust. A quiet environment is preferred, ideally with someone who is home more often than not. She would also benefit from having another well-balanced small dog in the home to help her bridge her trust gap. Due to her being fearful and jumpy around strangers, small children are not recommended. She is not a good fit for homes with cats.

Ongoing Health

Shayla is vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative.

Training & Support

Shayla is mostly house-trained, comfortable with a pee pad or doggy door. She is also crate-trained. While she can be anxious around strangers and may bark, snarl, or growl, she has never bitten and will run rather than engage. She is dominant among other dogs when establishing pack order.
