About Tommy

Tommy is a sweet, approximately 10-month-old male Terrier mix who currently weighs around 27 lbs and is expected to reach about 37 lbs. Born on April 10, 2024, Tommy was rescued and is being fostered in Matamoros, Mexico. He is a docile, affectionate, playful, and loving boy who is learning to trust people. While he can be a little shy and nervous around new faces, he is very active and enjoys running and playing with his doggy friends. Tommy was born at the shelter after his pregnant mother was rescued.

Ideal Home

Tommy would thrive in a home with families who have an open conscience about the realities of rescuing street animals and understand their need for protection and education. Experience in dog behavior and training is highly recommended, as is a high tolerance and patience for rescued puppies. Potential adopters must realize that rescue dogs may have been traumatized before arriving and will need an adjustment period, so patience and understanding are a must. Tommy is NOT house-trained.

Ongoing Health

Tommy has completed a comprehensive health protocol, including a spay/neuter certificate, two DHPPI vaccines, a Rabies vaccine, a Bordetella vaccine, deworming, and microchipping. He has also had a 4DX test and certificate, a negative heartworm test certificate, and is on monthly Nexgard Spectra preventive protection for fleas, ticks, and heartworm. He comes with a health certificate and vaccination booklet.

Training & Support

Tommy is not house-trained and will require consistent effort and patience to achieve this. Adopters should be prepared for an adjustment period as Tommy learns to trust and settle into his new environment.

Transportation

Tommy is currently being fostered in Matamoros, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast on our next cross-country trip. Transport to the adopter's home address is available for an additional fee.
