Barkley

Hi, my name is Barkley! I’m a one-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix. I’m a playful, energetic boy who loves chewing on bones and playing with tough “super chewer” toys. I’m great at tug-of-war and fetch, and I enjoy roughhousing and playing with older kids who can keep up with my energy. I’m a loving, loyal dog who would thrive with an active owner who has the time to work with me, give me structure, and share lots of cuddles.

Ideal Home

Barkley would do best in a home without small children or elderly people who may be unsteady on their feet, as he sometimes gets excited and can accidentally knock people over. He prefers not to share his food or bones with other dogs, and has a strong instinct to chase and attack cats. He also chases chickens and other small animals. Because of that, he’d be happiest in a home where he can be the center of attention.

Barkley is up-to-date on vaccinations and microchipped.

Training & Support

Barkley is house and crate trained. He can get bored if he’s left unattended for too long and may chew on things like walls or carpet if he doesn’t have enough supervision or activity. Having plenty of toys, exercise, and time with his person helps him stay on his best behavior. He has been trained with an underground electric fence system, but he is a determined guy and has been known to push through it. Because of that, he would do best with a secure physical fence or supervised outdoor time. He knows several basic commands including sit, lay down, and give paw, and he takes treats gently. He is great for grooming, enjoys baths, and loves being brushed.
