Some dogs arrive making a grand entrance. Lulu arrived with the quiet confidence of someone who's seen a thing or two and has absolutely no interest in pretending she likes treats she doesn't actually like.
The people who brought Lulu to us told us she was around 2 years old, though they had gotten her from someone else before she came to them. Based on her whitening muzzle, teeth, and overall appearance, our staff believes she's likely older than that. One team member guesses she may be closer to 8 to 10 years old, while another thinks she's more in the 4 to 6-year-old range.
The truth is, there is no definitive way to tell a dog's age. We look at things like graying around the muzzle, the condition of the teeth, tartar buildup, and even changes to the eyes to make our best estimate. But those clues can be influenced by so many factors. A dog who spent years outdoors with poor nutrition may appear much older than a dog of the same age who lived indoors, ate a quality diet, and received regular veterinary and dental care.
So, take Lulu's estimated age with a grain of salt. Better yet...come meet her and decide for yourself.
One thing we do know? This girl has exquisite taste. She's a little selective when it comes to treats, but offer her some peanut butter and you'll have her full attention in no time. She also appears to know a few basic commands like sit and even speak, making us think she was once someone's much-loved companion.
We're still getting to know Lulu, so we can't say yet how she feels about other dogs, cats, or children. What we can say is that she's a gentle, easygoing girl who seems destined for a life of cozy naps, soft blankets, and quality time with her favorite people.
