Meet Tonka!

Tonka is a big, goofy, lovable Akita with a silly personality and plenty of affection to share. He loves walks, frozen Kongs, puzzle toys, squeaky toys, and any activity that keeps his mind engaged. When he's excited, he's all kisses and enthusiasm, and he's learning his manners every day. Like many Akitas, Tonka is not the right fit for every home. He is looking for an experienced, breed-savvy adopter who understands the unique traits and needs of Akitas and is committed to providing structure, training, and proper management. He was born in February 2026 and is being fostered in Texas.

Ideal Home

Tonka would thrive with an active family and a securely fenced yard where he can stretch his legs and enjoy supervised outdoor time. He has a strong prey drive and is very interested in squirrels and cats, so he may be happiest as the only dog in the home.

Ongoing Health

Tonka is up-to-date on vaccinations, deworming, and flea/heartworm prevention. A health exam will be completed by a veterinarian prior to transport.

Training & Support

Tonka's ideal family will appreciate his goofy spirit, continue his training, and understand that building trust and maintaining boundaries are key to helping him succeed. Because we're still learning his preferences with other dogs, any introductions should be done slowly and thoughtfully.

• The adoption fee is $350 plus transport. This fee includes all current vaccinations, deworming, a registered microchip, fecal analysis, and a heartworm test if over 6 months old.

Transporation

Tonka is currently being fostered in Texas but is available for transport to a predetermined location agreed upon by Wags.
