About Billy Joel

Billy Joel is a roughly 1-year-old, 30 lb mixed-breed male with an energy level that's off the charts! He's a vocal boy who loves to "sing the song of his people" when he needs to go out or during transitions. He's house-trained and goes into his crate without issue, especially if a treat is involved. Billy thrives around other dogs and absolutely needs to have a canine companion in his adoptive home. He does well with a chill cat, but can get overly excited with more playful felines, so his interactions are managed carefully. He's also good with kids, but we recommend teens or older who can give him space as he builds confidence. Billy is terrified of men and will take many months of patient, positive reinforcement with a gentle male presence to learn to trust. He's also nervous about new sights and sounds on walks and is still working on his leash manners. He gets "toothy" when excited, a behavior we're working on. Billy is looking for an active home that understands the needs of a high-energy working breed and can provide him with the patience and training he needs to blossom.

Ideal Home

Billy Joel would do best in a home with experienced owners, particularly those familiar with herding or working breeds. He needs a securely fenced yard, preferably 6 feet high, to safely burn off his boundless energy. Due to his vocal nature, he is not recommended for apartments or townhomes with shared walls. Billy absolutely requires another dog in the home and needs his adopter to be patient with his fear of men, which will take months to overcome. He also needs to be crated away from guests as he is very wary of new people.

Billy is working on leash manners and managing his excitement, particularly his tendency to get "toothy" when happy.
