Meet our Star, a 5-year-old brindle beauty who came into rescue through no fault of her own, needing extensive medical care. She weighs around 65 pounds and is a mix of Boxer and Terrier. Star has been around people of all ages and lived with children, absolutely loving everyone she meets!
This sweet girl was an owned dog, but sadly, after a divorce, her family could no longer manage her medical needs. She arrived at our rescue emaciated, with a severe skin infection, bloody sores, hair loss, and swelling so extreme that her nails were curled under, making it difficult for her to walk. She was in constant discomfort and miserable! We immediately provided her with veterinary care, including multiple medications and medicated baths to treat her massive skin infections, and placed her on a special diet. As she slowly recovered from this neglect, her bright, joyful personality began to shine through. She loves people, affection, squeaky toys, food, treats, and most of all, BALLS!
As Star's skin has healed, her life has become amazing! To continue her healing journey, we transitioned her food to a fish-based diet, including all her treats, and she received an allergy shot. While it's hard to pinpoint the exact cause of allergies (food or environmental), we made changes to both and are thrilled to report her fur is healthy and has filled in, she's gained weight, and she's such a happy girl now! Potential adopters should be aware that she may require ongoing allergy shots and should not be fed any chicken products.
Star is not only gorgeous but also very smart and knows several commands. She is potty and crate trained, which is always a plus! In her previous life, she lived alone for at least four years without much dog socialization, so she is still learning how to share toys and food with other dogs. It's possible she might do best as the only "Queen" in her forever home, but with all the love she has to give, you won't need another dog! Star will keep you entertained with endless games of fetch, shower you with kisses and affection, enjoy car rides, and be your main squeeze for snuggles!
