Hola! My name is MACI! I'm an approximately 5-year-old, 35 lb Shepherd/Lab mix with a whole lot of love to give. I was found on the side of a highway in Mexico, skinny and malnourished, likely having recently had puppies. Despite my rough start, I was always calm and friendly at the vet and have been living at a doggie pension since August 2023, where I'm well-cared for and learning to socialize. I'm now ready to find my forever home and trade my pension life for cuddles and sunshine!
Ideal Home
I'm a social gal who loves other dogs and people! While I can be a bit shy at first, I warm up quickly with treats and gentle pats, showing my true happy-go-lucky self. I'm affectionate and crave human attention. I don't have any resource guarding issues and I'm happy to share my meals and water with other dogs. I enjoy long walks and also love lounging in the sun. I would do best in a home without cats, as I've shown some concerning behavior towards them in the past.
Ongoing Health
I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped, and will arrive with all my medical records. In August 2024, I had an abdominal ultrasound that revealed ovarian cysts, so I was spayed. I am now healthy with no known issues and will be tested for heartworm before flying north. Please note that dental work is common for rescue dogs, and any associated costs will be the adopter's responsibility.
Training & Support
I'm a work in progress when it comes to housetraining, so frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will be key to my success. My leash skills are pretty good, though I can pull a bit. A well-fitted harness and consistent training will help me continue to be a great walking companion. I can be a bit nippy when playing with other dogs, so a playmate who can match my energy would be ideal.
