Tommy is a sweet, aproximadamente 10-month-old terrier mix who currently weighs around 27 lbs and is expected to grow to about 37 lbs. He was born on April 10, 2024, and is being fostered in Matamoros, Mexico. Tommy is docile, affectionate, playful, friendly, and loving. He's a bit shy and nervous around new people but is learning to trust. He's also very active and enjoys running and playing with his dog friends. Tommy's mother was rescued, and he was born at the shelter.
Ideal Home
Tommy would thrive in a home with families who have an open conscience about the needs of rescued street animals and understand their need for protection and education. An experienced background in dog behavior and training is highly recommended, along with high tolerance and patience for rescued puppies. It's important for adopters to realize that rescued dogs may have been traumatized and will need an adjustment period.
Ongoing Health
Tommy has received a comprehensive health protocol, including a spay/neuter certificate, two DHPPI vaccines, a Rabies vaccine, a Bordetella vaccine, deworming, and is microchipped. He has also tested negative for heartworm and undergone a 4DX test. He receives monthly preventive protection with Nexgard Spectra for fleas, ticks, and heartworm. A health certificate and vaccination booklet are included.
Training & Support
Tommy is not house-trained, which is common for rescue dogs who haven't had the opportunity for specific training due to the high number of animals needing care. Adopters should be prepared for an adjustment period and understand that patience and understanding are a must.

- A home check (virtual or in-person) will be conducted.
- A virtual meet and greet will be arranged to allow you to meet Tommy and for us to get a visual of your home and family members.
- If all parties agree it's a good fit, an adoption contract will be provided, which includes a trial adoption period.
Transportation
Tommy is currently being fostered in Matamoros, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast on our next cross-country trip if adopted. Transportation to the adopter's home address is available for an additional fee.
