Junior Bear honestly looks like someone accidentally combined a sad old grandpa, a baby polar bear, and Sid from Ice Age into one dog and somehow... it works perfectly! This poor guy was found in rough shape, looking more like a little naked mole rat than a fluffy Great Pyrenees mix, but watching him transform has been so special. His coat is already coming back in beautifully, and while we can't guarantee exactly how fluffy he'll end up, we can confidently say he's becoming cuter by the day. Between his permanently expressive facial expressions, the little tongue that often sticks out like he always has something important to say, and his shy, gentle personality, Junior is one of those dogs that completely sneaks up on your heart.
Ideal Home
Junior needs a patient, understanding home that will allow him to build trust at his own pace. He would do best with lower to medium energy, respectful dogs that will give him space and not overwhelm him socially. He has also done wonderfully with small dogs and was respectful around the resident cat. While he could potentially do okay in a quieter apartment, townhome, duplex, or condo, having access to a small yard would likely help him settle in more comfortably and build confidence with his new person.
Ongoing Health
Junior Bear is believed to be a Great Pyrenees/Lab mix, approximately 6 years old and weighing around 50 lbs. As with any rescue, we cannot guarantee breed or exact age.
Training & Support
Junior is a "slow burn" with people and new environments; he needs time to settle in, observe, and realize he's safe before opening up. Baby talking him, speaking softly, and letting him approach you on his own terms works wonders. Once he warms up, he'll start asking for affection, leaning into attention, and showing a sweet, cuddly side. He is crate trained and quiet in the home. He needs patience with leash walking; too much pressure can cause him to freeze, while less pressure and calm energy allow him to meander at his own pace.
