Canelo

Canelo is a 7-month-old, 28-pound bundle of joy who was rescued from dire circumstances in Mexico. He arrived in San Francisco on June 23rd and is now thriving in foster care, ready to find his forever home. Canelo is estimated to grow into a medium-large dog, likely between 40-55 pounds. He's a spirited pup with a huge personality, always eager to be involved in everything you do. He loves stealing socks, talking back with attitude, rolling in the grass, and carrying around his teddy bears. Car rides are a favorite pastime, and he's always up for an adventure. Canelo is incredibly food motivated and has already mastered "sit," "paw," "high five," and "twirl" in Spanish!

Ideal Home

Canelo would thrive in an active home with a large yard or adopters who enjoy frequent walks and adventures. He needs a family committed to providing structure, consistency, and ongoing training, as he is still learning to navigate the world. Due to his prey drive, he should not be placed in a home with cats or other small animals. His mouthiness, puppy antics, and tendency to get overstimulated mean he would do best in a home without young children. A confident, well-socialized larger dog would be a great companion to help him learn the ropes.

Ongoing Health

Canelo has made a full recovery from bronchitis and is now a healthy, happy pup.

Training & Support

Canelo is still learning to socialize appropriately with other dogs, refrain from pulling on the leash, and understand that mouthing humans isn't the best way to play. He can be quite mouthy when excited or overstimulated. He is looking for a dog-savvy family that understands he is still very much a teenager and needs continued guidance, training, and patience.
