Meet Rufio, a handsome Cane Corso mix who currently weighs 66 pounds. His foster mom is working to help him reach his ideal weight of 75 pounds.
Rufio was found as a stray in early January 2026 and is learning daily that he can trust humans. He is a shy, quiet boy with a sweet, gentle temperament. It takes him a little time to warm up to new people, but within a week of being in his foster home, he began following his foster mom around, seeking affection, and happily joining the family on the couch and bed.
Rufio loves his foster mom and her two children, ages 9 and 11, with the 9-year-old son being his favorite! He is a bit intimidated by his foster dad but has shown no aggression, simply retreating. The family is taking things slowly with him. His energy level is low to medium. He enjoys evening walks, shows no reaction to other people or dogs, and is improving his leash manners. He is not a vocal dog, occasionally whimpering when excited or uncertain. He does emit a funny, brief howl when his foster mom leaves.
This boy is dog-friendly and currently lives with two senior Chihuahuas who he lets lead the way, despite the size difference. He would love to have calm, well-mannered canine companions who could help him gain confidence. Rufio is house-trained, indicating when he needs to go out by approaching the back door, and is reliable for potty breaks in the yard or on walks. He is crate-trained for when the family is away and tolerates a secured crate well, with no accidents. He sleeps soundly through the night, choosing between sleeping in his foster parents' bed or a crate in their bedroom, as long as he is near his people.
Ideal Home
Rufio would benefit from a patient family who can help him feel safe and loved. Earning the trust of a timid dog and watching them blossom is an incredibly rewarding experience!
Ongoing Health
