Shelby

Shelby and her litter of puppies were rescued from beneath an abandoned house. Another rescue took the puppies, and we brought Shelby to our shelter to help her recover from her postpartum journey and to find her a cozy, safe home — somewhere she can live inside the house and not underneath it! She is a 2-year-old spayed female lab mix who weighs approximately 50 lbs and is being treated for heartworm.

Ideal Home

Shelby would do best in a foster or foster-to-adopt home while she recovers. Animal Alliance does not adopt adult dogs (over 9 months old) into households with children under 9 years of age due to the risk of bites.

Ongoing Health

Shelby is currently being treated for heartworm. This condition is not contagious and only requires that the dog stay relatively calm and inactive for 2-3 months during recovery. She has been spayed, de-wormed, is current on vaccines, and has started monthly flea/tick preventatives.

Training & Support

While not explicitly stated, Shelby is recovering from a significant health treatment, so patience and a calm environment will be key to her successful transition.

Transporation

Shelby is currently in a foster home in New Jersey. We work with a network of foster homes and can arrange transportation to other foster locations within a reasonable distance.
