About Freya
Meet Freya: The Queen Who Rules on Her Own Terms
I'm Freya, a 4-year-old black and tan Doberman with natural ears. I weigh 57 pounds and have a regal, no-nonsense energy. I'm spayed, fully vetted, and looking for my next chapter. I can be a bit complex, so I need an experienced person who truly understands me.
I'm a particular girl who likes my routine, my space respected, and things done right. Some might call me "prissy," and that's fair. I prefer a clean bed, dislike messes, and have a specific way I like my world ordered. I'm not the type to love-bomb strangers; I earn trust slowly, and once I give mine, it's yours. I walk well on leash, enjoy time in the yard, and have settled into a calm, happy routine that I hope to continue.
I came from a breeder and lived with my previous family for years. A big move disrupted my world, and I don't handle change well. The stress of the move led to an incident where I snapped, and my owner felt she couldn't manage me responsibly anymore. This was a difficult but loving decision, not because I'm a bad dog, but because I'm an anxious Doberman who hit a wall during a very tough transition. With the right structure and stability, I do very well.
I've been trained with an e-collar and a prong collar, used thoughtfully for gentle corrections. I listen well when I trust my handler. I'm also trained to retreat to the bedroom when I feel overwhelmed, and I use this skill effectively. I know my limits and how to deescalate, and I need a human who reinforces this structure. I wear a muzzle due to a past incident and have learned to accept it. I'm crate trained and love my covered crate; it's my cozy cave.
I am protective and will make my presence known. I'll bark and rush when someone comes to the door, but I do not like being approached or petted by strangers without a proper, controlled introduction. My previous owner would crate me or put me in the bedroom when visitors arrived, and this is a protocol that works. My new family must take my past snapping incidents seriously and manage introductions accordingly.
I'm selective with other dogs; I don't start fights, but I prefer dogs that mind their own business. I've never been in full-on dog fights, but I need slow, controlled introductions with compatible dogs. I completely ignore dogs that are respectful. I've always lived with cats and am genuinely good with them, even bonding with a kitten once. Slow introductions are key for indoor cats. I will chase outdoor or stray cats in my yard, so no outdoor cats, please.
I do best with older children, 13 and up, who are calm and respectful. I need a quieter home, so no roughhousing, climbing on me, or chaotic energy. Small animals are not safe around me due to my strong prey drive.
I am spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and negative for intestinal parasites. I'm at a healthy weight of 57 pounds and am in great physical shape.
I am loyal, smart, and bond deeply with those who earn my trust. I thrive on a tidy life and consistent people. I know my limits, possess coping skills, and can be a wonderful companion with the right handler. I'm not the dog for everyone, but for the right experienced home that desires a complex, beautiful, and true Doberman, I am absolutely worth it.
