Meet Ernest!

Ernest is a gentle, sensitive five-and-a-half-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix who weighs around 75 pounds. He has a soft cream coat and soulful eyes that hint at the deep affection he carries for his people. Ernest is a constant companion who loves staying close, offering sweet kisses, and quietly following his favorite humans from room to room. He has happily shared his world with children, a cat, and even chickens, showing a calm and friendly nature across many different companions. Ernest is wonderfully social with people and is often welcoming toward strangers, yet he also carries a layer of sensitivity that calls for understanding and patience.

Ideal Home

Ernest would do best in a home where his caregiver is not away for long workdays, as he truly needs a gentle, consistent presence throughout the day. He does not do well with crates, kennels, or gates and experiences barrier frustration, so he will need a home that can provide him with freedom of movement in a safe and supportive way.

Ongoing Health

Ernest requires daily medication, including Keppra, Gabapentin, and Prozac, to manage epilepsy and support his anxiety. His seizures are generally well managed with consistency and care.

Training & Support

Ernest can become overstimulated and may vocalize or struggle to settle, especially when there is a lot of movement or change around him, so a calm environment helps him feel secure. He benefits from structure, positive reinforcement, and a steady presence, and he is happiest when someone is nearby to share companionship and reassurance. He thrives with frequent walks and hikes, which help him feel balanced and fulfilled. While he is good with other dogs, he may need thoughtful introductions and continued guidance to keep play balanced and comfortable.
