Paloma is a wonderfully loyal and loving 1.5-year-old, 74lb Cane Corso mix. She bonds deeply with her people, is intelligent, and has the most adorable body wiggles! Originally adopted as a puppy, she was returned to the shelter after a year because her owner didn't have time for her and kept her outdoors. This understandably left her scared and confused, leading to her being placed on the euthanasia list. Thankfully, we scooped her up, as we have a soft spot for big babies and mastiff breeds!
In foster care, Paloma has blossomed into an incredibly friendly dog who adores everyone she meets, regardless of gender or age. She's even been wonderful with someone in a wheelchair! She's also fantastic with other playful dogs her size (40-80lbs), but her alpha personality means she'd do best in a home with a more neutral or submissive canine companion. Due to her high prey drive, Paloma cannot live with cats. She's a quick learner and enjoys training, responding readily to her foster. We believe she has the potential to be a service dog with the right training and opportunities.
Ideal Home
Paloma needs an active home that can provide at least 1.5 hours of exercise daily. While energetic, she also loves to cuddle and relax once her needs are met. She thrives on routine and exercise, and when these are provided, she will give you her whole heart.
Ongoing Health
Paloma is a healthy young dog.
Training & Support
Paloma is working on leash and crate training. Her adopter should be committed to continuing her leash training, which currently involves a figure-8 halter and low-level e-collar for redirection. She's made great progress with crate training, though she may vocalize for 10-20 minutes initially before settling down, especially on lower-exercise days. Consistent exercise is key to her settling quickly in the crate. She is just learning about indoor living, and her adopter should be patient and enthusiastic about helping her adjust.
