About Maximus
Maximus is a giant puppy stuck in a big, Big, BIG dog’s body! He doesn’t quite understand his own size and will often play with his whole body. At 2 years old and 94 pounds, he might even grow a little more! He's generally outgoing and happy to be with people, and he walks well on a leash, though he is very strong and does pull. He takes direction well and has been friendly with everyone he’s met. He rides happily in the car and is very treat motivated, making him a joy to train. If you have treats on hand during walks, he’ll happily stick right by your side.
Maximus came to us from a rural shelter because his previous young owners lacked experience with Rottweilers or large breeds. He's a dog who thrives with mental and physical stimulation, needing plenty of "play time" to burn off energy. He’s a sweet and trainable boy who just didn't have much guidance early in life. He’s very active and absolutely loves to play – it's as if he’s begging you to play with him! He has good recall, knows "sit," "stay," and "bring it," and has a genuine desire to play and learn. His foster mom is working with him daily to help him settle down after playtime. It seems he wasn’t given enough time, attention, or stimulation for a dog of his size and breed. True to his Rottweiler nature, he also loves playing in water, so a kiddie pool would be a fantastic addition to his new home for lounging and playing with toys!
In his foster home, Maximus has experience with children and another dog, and he’s crate trained and comfortable indoors. However, very young children who might not understand boundaries might not be the best fit, as Maximus could accidentally knock them over. We recommend a home with children over 12 years old. Maximus is very toy-oriented and doesn't resource guard. While he will let go of his toys when asked, it's clear he absolutely adores them! We're unsure how he is with cats as he hasn't had the chance to interact with them. Maximus is a big, sweet boy hoping to find a loving and capable home with a family experienced with Rottweilers who appreciate the breed and understand they are more like big babies than bullies, ready to be devoted and loving companions.
Ideal Home
A home experienced with Rottweilers and large breeds. A family who understands the breed and their needs for stimulation and exercise. A home with children over 12 years old, as he can be boisterous and might accidentally knock over smaller children.
Ongoing Health
Maximus is neutered, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm tested, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Medical records will be provided.
Training & Support
Maximus is treat-motivated and easy to train. He knows "sit," "stay," and "bring it," and has good recall. He needs ongoing redirection for downtime behavior and consistent stimulation and exercise.
