Thomas is a resilient and loving dog who came to us from a county shelter in August 2023, after being on their euthanasia list. He arrived in a severely neglected state, underweight and in pain, struggling to stand. To make matters worse, he was battling severe pneumonia due to a weakened immune system. Our medical team provided him with extensive care, including an MRI, CT scan, and additional bloodwork and x-rays. After thorough diagnostics, he was diagnosed with rampant Valley Fever that had spread throughout his body, and fungal osteomyelitis that was attacking his bones.
Thankfully, his condition is treatable, though it has meant a longer road to recovery. Thomas has successfully overcome his pneumonia and gained much-needed weight. While his body is still fighting the Valley Fever, his quality of life has significantly improved. He absolutely adores his foster home, enjoying snuggling between his foster parents' legs and even wearing pajamas to bed! He also gets along well with other dogs and cats but most of all, he cherishes cuddle time with his people. Thomas is house-trained, walks nicely on a leash, and has begun learning basic obedience.
Ideal Home
Thomas would thrive in a quieter household without children. He would benefit from a family member who is home often and understands that his mobility is a bit slower and stiffer, so shorter strolls are preferred.
Ongoing Health
Thomas's long-term care will include ongoing treatment for Valley Fever. This condition is not contagious to other humans or pets. He will require a family committed to continuing his medications and attending 3-6 month monitoring appointments. These rechecks and medication costs will be covered through our foster-to-adopt program.
Training & Support
Thomas is house-trained and walks well on a leash. He has also started learning basic obedience, showing great promise.
