Meet Lucy – A Gentle 9-Year-Old Basset Hound–Terrier Mix

Lucy is a shy, timid, and incredibly sweet 9-year-old Basset Hound–Terrier mix. She arrived at Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue after her owner entered hospice care. Lucy and her brother, Ricky, spent their entire lives together in a less-than-ideal environment where they were subjected to harsh discipline. Sadly, they were surrendered when their owner's health declined, and no family members were willing to take them in. Upon arrival, it was discovered that their veterinary care had been neglected for years. Both Lucy and Ricky suffered from severe dental disease, and Lucy was also diagnosed with a heart murmur. Now safe and receiving care, Lucy is slowly learning that gentle hands and kind voices exist, and that she deserves comfort and compassion. Ricky has found his forever home, and Lucy is still waiting for her special person.

Lucy is the quieter of the two siblings. She is timid and may flinch when you raise your hand to pet her, but she is gentle and calm. She enjoys lounging on soft blankets or quietly following her foster mom around the house. Her life has changed dramatically, and she is still learning to trust and feel secure. With patience, kindness, and love, Lucy's sweet personality continues to blossom a little more every day. She is potty trained but does occasionally have accidents.
