Poe

Poe is a handsome mixed breed dog, perhaps a mix of Flat-Coated Retriever and Newfoundland given his facial features. He's just over 2 years old and has a playful, bouncy spirit. Poe has had some difficult experiences with previous humans, making him initially a bit wary of new people. However, with a little patience and warmth, he blossoms! He's eager to trust, loves to play, and shows a curious intelligence by cocking his head as you speak. He adores the shelter staff and has become quite protective of us, indicating he'd make a great watchdog. Poe is also known to resource guard, particularly his crate, and dislikes strangers approaching it.

Ideal Home

Poe needs a patient and understanding home that can give him the time he needs to build trust. While he eventually warms up to men, he is more comfortable with women initially.

Ongoing Health

Poe is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped.

Training & Support

Poe is crate-trained and appears to be house-trained, as he hasn't had any accidents in the shelter or his crate. He's still learning leash manners and does better with a harness than a collar, suggesting he needs further training in this area. He will require regular brushing (a couple of times a week) due to his thick, long coat.
