About Titan
Titan is an 8-year-old, 130-pound Anatolian Shepherd mix who is basically a grumpy old man in a dog body, complete with strong opinions, a strict daily schedule, and absolutely zero tolerance for nonsense. He is a Livestock Guardian Dog through and through, meaning he's intelligent, independent, observant, and very aware of what's happening at all times. Titan knows exactly what he wants and expects you to know it too! Daily walks are mandatory, dirty drinking water is offensive, and trying to pass off a Milk-Bone when he knows better treats are available is downright disrespectful. Titan is whip-smart and will use his intelligence to hold you accountable; his routines are sacred. If he doesn't get his walk, he'll pace and stare until you correct your mistake – consider it gentle, but firm, management. He also prefers colder weather and considers snow both enrichment and a snack, happily crunching snow chunks and supervising all winter activities like the dedicated working professional he is. Titan currently lives with three cats and has adjusted well, even befriending one and occasionally attempting to play, though he doesn't always understand his size difference. He experiences separation anxiety and forms incredibly strong bonds, often waiting to eat or drink until his favorite person returns home.
Ideal Home
Titan would do best with children around 10 years old and up who understand boundaries and respect his need for personal space, as he is not a dog who enjoys being climbed on, crowded, or having anyone in his face. He is protective of his food and treats, so mealtimes should be supervised and respected. He would do best in a home where someone is around more often than not, such as retired adopters, work-from-home households, or people with flexible schedules. A physically fenced yard is required for him to patrol.
Ongoing Health
No specific ongoing health conditions are mentioned in the listing.
Training & Support
Titan thrives on routine, structure, and predictability. Changes to his schedule can be stressful for him. He is a creature of habit who finds comfort in knowing what comes next. He needs an experienced adopter who understands guardian breeds, appreciates independent personalities, and can provide structure, routine, and consistency. While he has not been formally tested one-on-one with another dog, he has shown encouraging signs with neighbor dogs and may do well with the right canine companion: an older, calmer dog who isn't overly energetic or constantly in his face. Any introductions should be done thoughtfully, and feeding or treats should initially be given separately. Dog-savvy cats with safe spaces to retreat to would be important.
