About Flora
Flora is a 3-year-old, spayed female Carolina Dog mix who weighs 46 pounds. She's a playful and energetic girl who absolutely loves to wrestle and play chase. Affectionately known as Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, she can entertain herself for hours with her favorite games. She really enjoys interacting with other dogs, and has experience playing with a variety of canine companions, from a 35-pound Cocker Spaniel to a 60-pound Pyrenees mix. Flora is a total love bug who also enjoys snuggling, sunbathing, and birdwatching. She does well in the car, but is terrified of storms and will seek shelter in a closet or bury her head in your lap. Flora is fully housebroken and is able to be left unsupervised out of her crate with no issues. She shares her toys well and has no issues with people and food, though she does need reminders to take treats gently. Flora is very smart, loves learning new tricks, and is very submissive and affectionate. She may be a work in progress, but she will reward you with love and companionship for years to come!
Ideal Home
Flora would thrive in a moderately active home with someone who is often around, enjoys walks or jogs, and will play fetch with her. A home with no other pets, or a well-balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level would be ideal. She needs an owner who will continue positive reinforcement to help with her anxiety. Flora can be nervous around new children and has stranger danger when new people come into the home, especially if they move around quickly. Because of this, she may prefer an adult household at this time.
Ongoing Health
No specific ongoing health conditions are mentioned.
Training & Support
Flora requires slow and guided introductions to other dogs. She has shown some leash reactivity, including raised hair, whimpering, and barking, though her foster parents have been working with her on this. She can get easily spooked and pulls a lot on the leash, but has made progress with positive reinforcement and minimal stimuli, doing much better in calm environments. She will need consistent training to help her with her leash skills and to feel safe around new dogs and stimuli. Flora has demonstrated some anxiety in her crate at home, but has no issues when boarded. She is fed separately from the other dogs in her foster home.
