About Mimic
Meet Mimic 💙 Mimic is the kind of dog who reminds us why second chances matter. When she arrived at rescue, we were told she needed immediate medical care for what appeared to be a broken back leg. After further evaluation, we discovered the truth was even more heartbreaking — Mimic had suffered an old femur fracture that had healed incorrectly. Her leg had been left with little function, and she was unable to properly use it or bear weight. But Mimic was given the chance she deserved. Our orthopedic team took on the challenge of repairing her leg, and after nearly five hours of surgery, her femur was carefully re-broken and repaired. Today, Mimic is walking on that leg, putting weight on it, and continuing the hard work of recovery through rehabilitation. Watching her go from a leg that once dangled behind her to confidently using it again has been nothing short of incredible. Now, this beautiful one-year-old Standard Australian Shepherd is ready to start the next chapter of her story. Mimic is smart, curious, and eager to be part of everything her people are doing. She loves being outside, exploring her surroundings, and staying close to her humans. She isn’t the type of dog who wants to wander off — she wants to know where her people are and be included in the adventure. She is also a big fan of toys and treats, which makes training much easier because Mimic is motivated and ready to learn. She is currently working on her foundation skills, including house training, basic manners, and understanding what life as a family dog looks like. Like many dogs who have experienced uncertainty, Mimic is also learning that she doesn’t need to protect the things she loves. She is working through some resource guarding around toys with the help of her foster family, who are providing patience, structure, and positive guidance. Mimic enjoys the other dogs in her foster home and is continuing to build confidence with play and social interactions. She is still discovering that the world can be a safe and happy place, and she is making progress every single day. Mimic isn’t looking for a family to feel sorry for her. She’s looking for a family who will celebrate how far she has come and give her the time, patience, and consistency she needs to continue thriving. Her ideal home will be one that understands the intelligence and sensitivity of an Australian Shepherd, enjoys helping a dog learn, and wants a companion who will be right by their side for all of life’s adventures. Mimic has spent enough time surviving. Now she’s ready to be loved, included, and finally experience what it means to be someone’s dog. ❤️
