Isma is a spirited 7-year-old, 9.8 lb Chihuahua mix with long legs and a graceful demeanor, who may be a bit older than her vet records indicate. She's a "happy-go-lucky" girl who greets her favorite people with joyful leaps and showers affection on everyone she meets, showing a remarkable lack of typical "chihuahua" reserve. While she enjoys plenty of snoozing and relaxing with her humans, Isma's energy levels are surprisingly sprightly, not quite befitting a senior. She's a certified lap dog who thrives on cuddles and loves to accompany her foster mom on errands, quietly enjoying the ride in a sling.
Isma is a social butterfly who has lived harmoniously with multiple dogs of various ages and sizes, and she's currently sharing her NYC foster home with a senior pit bull. She delights in meeting new people and is unfazed by gentle attention from young children. Her playful side shines through with her love for shredding paper and cardboard, earning her the affectionate nickname "Confetti Maker." She exhibits excellent recall, walks beautifully on a leash, and shows no signs of separation anxiety, making her an ideal companion for apartment living. While she may offer a polite bark to passersby from the window, she is not a nuisance barker, preferring a quiet presence.
Ideal Home
Isma would do well in a home where she can be the center of attention and receive plenty of affection. She has shown comfort with young children as long as they are respectful and gentle.
Ongoing Health
Isma has been diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, which is well-managed with daily medication. She recently underwent a full dental cleaning and extractions.
Training & Support
Isma is not fully house-trained due to her medication, which increases her need to urinate frequently. She looks cute in diapers and readily uses potty pads. She will also go outside to do her business.
