About Ryder

Ryder is a 1-year-old, 60 lb Pit Bull mix with an athletic build and an abundance of joyful energy. He's a loyal, affectionate boy who's eager to connect with his people and thrives in active households that enjoy regular exercise and enrichment. Ryder is friendly, social, and highly food-motivated, making him a joy to work with.

Ideal Home

Ryder would do best in an active, structured home with guardians committed to ongoing training and enrichment. Due to his size and enthusiasm, a home with children aged 13 and older would be most appropriate. He has the potential to live with other dogs who can handle his enthusiasm, but cats have not yet been tested. Ryder would make a fantastic dog sport companion, with his impressive vertical jump and drive making him a great candidate for high-energy canine sports.

Ongoing Health

All adult dogs at Animal Services receive veterinary health checks, and are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas (if necessary) before going to their new homes.

Training & Support

Ryder is a smart boy who responds well to food-based rewards and enjoys working with his handler. He's fantastic on walks, sniffing, staying engaged, and sitting on cue. However, when excited, Ryder may jump up, and he benefits from help learning to keep all four feet on the floor. Shelter life has been stressful, sometimes making it harder for him to concentrate or stay calm in busy situations. He will benefit from positive, reward-based training focusing on impulse control, structure, and calm behaviors. With consistency, guidance, and plenty of positive outlets for his energy, Ryder will blossom into a loyal, fun, and rewarding companion.
