Lyra is a resilient and loving dog who has overcome an incredible amount of hardship. This approximately five-year-old girl was found in a terrible state, facing a medical emergency during labor and suffering from a severe skin condition and a neglected injury to her back leg. She also tested positive for heartworms, but thanks to dedicated care, she has undergone surgery, received treatment for her leg, and completed heartworm treatment. Despite her past, Lyra has a deep affection for people and a playful spirit. She's about knee-high and weighs 47 pounds, and while she doesn't realize her own strength, she loves to snuggle and will try to fit in your lap. Lyra is eager to leave her past behind and experience the loving home she so deserves.
Ideal Home
Lyra would thrive in a home with a family, specifically with teenagers, as she can be quite strong and is not suitable for homes with small children. Her past experiences have shown that she does not get along with other animals and must be the only pet in the household.
Ongoing Health
Lyra has undergone a hysterectomy to remove a deceased puppy and has had her back leg amputated due to a prior injury. She has also been treated for heartworms.
Training & Support
Lyra has shown a positive response to redirection and training. A balanced training approach that establishes clear rules, boundaries, and limitations is recommended for her long-term success. While she has a history of jumping on other dogs, she stopped when corrected and did not cause injury.
