Meet Kewpie, the charming, shortstack bully-mix! Kewpie arrived at the shelter as a stray, so we don't know much about his past adventures. What we do know is that he's a delightfully wiggly guy who absolutely loves his walks and interacting with people. He's met other dogs here and seems to be neutral towards them.
Ideal Home
Kewpie would thrive in a home with an adopter who understands and is prepared for the specific needs of a dog with his body confirmation. This includes a commitment to maintaining a healthy weight and being mindful of overexertion on warm days. He may do well in a home with other animals, provided they are introduced slowly and thoughtfully. Any resident dogs should meet Kewpie at the shelter before adoption to ensure a good fit.
Ongoing Health
As a bully-mix, Kewpie may have specific health considerations related to his body confirmation. Adopters should be prepared to manage his weight and monitor him for signs of overexertion, especially in warm weather.
Training & Support
Kewpie is eager to please and will benefit from continued positive reinforcement training. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering "Pawsitivity Bucks" with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a wonderful opportunity for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement-based behavior consultants and build a strong, happy relationship.
Application Details:
- Applications start by contacting us through Wags.
- Kewpie is available for pre-adoption and can go home after his neuter surgery.
Transportation
Kewpie is located at our Santa Cruz Shelter. Our Santa Cruz location’s shelter hours are 11 am-6 pm, 7 days a week. While you can see animals in their kennels during open hours, "meet and greets" (meeting an animal outside of their kennel) conclude daily at 4:30 pm. To allow ample time for discussion and a proper introduction, please plan to arrive before 4:00 pm if you wish to meet an animal out of their kennel.
