Meet Starkey, a Shih Tzu gentleman of about 8-9 years old and weighing in at approximately 10 lbs. Starkey lives life on his own terms, and while he may seem a bit particular, he's a total sweetheart underneath it all. He was found as a stray and endured severe neglect, which has shaped his personality, but he's ready to leave that all behind for a loving home.
Ideal Home
Starkey would thrive in a home with a gentle demeanor where he can get plenty of cuddles and rub downs. He loves to be close to his people and collects his toys on the couch. A fenced yard is highly preferred for his enjoyment. Given his tendency to nip ankles when you leave and potential guarding behaviors, a home with older, dog-savvy children would be best. His needs with cats are currently unknown.
Ongoing Health
Starkey was found as a stray and experienced severe neglect, but he is now ready for a healthy and happy life. He has a voracious appetite and will gobble down his food quickly, so a slow feeder is a must.
Training & Support
Starkey is crate trained, though he may pace initially, and he appreciates a gentle approach when getting him settled. He is pee pad trained but may have occasional accidents. He can be nippy when you leave and has some guarding tendencies with other dogs, especially if they get too close. He is dog-friendly but would do best in a home where he isn't overwhelmed by other dogs in his face. He knows how to use a doggie door.
