Meet Penny, a bright-eyed, 2-year-old, 62-pound Shepherd/Husky mix with a heart as big as her spirit. Penny is a fun-loving, affectionate, and outgoing girl who is always ready for her next adventure or a good cuddle session. She's a curious and social girl who thrives when she's active, engaged, and close to her people. Penny is also incredibly affectionate and emotionally tuned into her humans, readily offering snuggles and gazing up with soulful eyes. She has likely experienced past trauma and may flinch easily, but with calm, consistent care and reassurance, she is blossoming into a confident companion.
Ideal Home
Penny would do best in a home with older teens or adults who understand dog behavior and can help her channel her energy positively. She needs a cat-free home due to observed prey-driven behavior outdoors. Penny enjoys the company of other dogs, but she thrives with confident, medium-to-large dogs who are comfortable setting healthy boundaries, as she is still learning doggy social etiquette and can sometimes be a bit overwhelming for smaller or more timid dogs. A home that provides structure, patience, and understanding will help Penny continue to grow.
Ongoing Health
Penny is a healthy, spayed female. She can be protective of her space and high-value items like food or toys around other dogs, which is managed by her foster with separation during meal times and treat distributions.
Training & Support
Penny is fully house-trained and is learning to be more comfortable with separation, though she prefers to be close to her people and may whine or bark when alone. She has not yet been crate trained. She can be trusted loose in the house when items are put away, but she does have a tendency to chew on dog beds when bored. Penny gets excited on leash walks initially but settles with guidance and would love an adopter who enjoys walks, hikes, or runs. She is smart and eager to please but needs an adopter who will go at her pace and allow her time to relax into a routine.
