About Canela

Canela is a bright, loving, and full-of-life young dog with the heart and spirit typical of an Australian Kelpie mix. She's approximately 1 year old and weighs around 33 lbs. Known for their intelligence, loyalty, and high energy, Kelpies are active companions who thrive with people who enjoy outdoor activities—and Canela is no exception. She walks well on a leash and is incredibly social with dogs and people alike. Canela has a playful and funny personality, often jumping up as if she were a tiny Chihuahua, hoping for cuddles! She is energetic, curious, and always ready for fun, making her an ideal companion for someone who enjoys walks, exercise, or an active lifestyle. Canela was found alone playing in the street and feared for her safety, so she was taken in. She has shown nothing but love, resilience, and a wonderful spirit since then and is ready to share her energy, affection, and loyal heart with her forever family.

Ideal Home

Canela would thrive in a home with a fenced backyard and an active family that enjoys outdoor activities. She needs a family with the intention to truly rescue a dog, understanding the needs of rescued street animals and their behaviors, and is willing to provide protection and education. Experience in dog behavior and training is highly preferred, or a commitment to hiring a trainer. Families with high tolerance and patience for rescued puppies are essential. She is NOT house-trained.

Ongoing Health

Canela has received a Spay/Neuter Certificate, 2 DHPPI Vaccines, Rabies Vaccine, Bordetella Vaccine, is Dewormed, Microchipped, has a negative 4DX Test, a negative Heartworm Test, and is on monthly Nexgard Spectra preventive protection. She also has a Health Certificate and Vaccine booklet.

Training & Support

Canela can get bored if she doesn't have enough stimulation and may chew on objects, especially plastic, so providing toys and guidance will help her thrive. She may also bark when she hears unfamiliar noises, as she is naturally alert. It's important to understand that rescued dogs may have experienced trauma and require an adjustment period with patience and understanding to build trust. She is not house-trained.
