Jolene, lovingly known as JoJo, is a 7-year-old female Weimaraner who embodies sweetness. She's affectionate, gentle, and wonderful with people. JoJo enjoys car rides, is excellent on leash, and has a special fondness for couches. She came into rescue with limited socialization and stability, but has since undergone extensive veterinary care, including heartworm treatment and being spayed. JoJo has also made incredible progress in behavioral rehabilitation and is now healthy, happy, and ready for her forever family. She is house-trained, great with children and dogs of all sizes, cat tolerant, and good with handling like baths and nail trims. JoJo is non-aggressive and truly a people-oriented companion.
Ideal Home
JoJo would thrive in a home with another calm, stable dog for companionship, as she gains confidence from canine presence. An alternative would be a home where someone is present most of the time or plans to include her in their daily activities. Due to her anxiety, traditional boarding facilities are not suitable for JoJo; she will need an in-home pet sitter or to travel with her family when they go away.
Ongoing Health
JoJo suffers from severe separation anxiety and requires daily medication: Fluoxetine 40mg. She also takes Trazodone when left alone and Simparica Trio monthly. For the first year of adoption, it is expected she will need a high-anxiety impact-rated kennel when left alone and Trazodone administered before departures. While she has made significant progress, medication may remain a part of her long-term management plan.
Training & Support
JoJo's separation anxiety is her primary challenge. While she has shown improvement and can sometimes be left loose for several hours in the evening, morning departures are still more difficult for her. Consistent routines and structure are key to her success. Adopters should be prepared to continue supporting her progress and managing her anxiety.
