Samantha is an 11-month-old purebred Anatolian Shepherd who is a fantastic pup with plenty of growing to do! She's a smart and independent girl with a personality true to her ancient breed, originally from Turkey and bred to protect farms. Samantha will need a family familiar with the breed and comfortable with large to giant breeds, as she's expected to weigh between 80-100lbs. She thrives in a pack environment and does well with another dog of similar size and age, learning from her Dane companion. While intelligent, Samantha can be stubborn, so she needs positive reinforcement training, as this breed doesn't respond well to negativity. She loves to play and enjoys a variety of toys like Nylabones and Kongs, and her foster family hasn't experienced any chewing issues. Samantha walks well on a leash and only occasionally needs gentle correction when she hears other dogs barking. She is strong and will continue to grow. She shows no signs of toy or food aggression and is good with children. While she was reportedly around a cat in her previous home, she does bark at loose cats on walks. Samantha is protective of her home and pack, communicating with barks rather than aggression. She's not overly cuddly but will seek attention when she wants it.
Ideal Home
Samantha would do best in a home with another dog of similar size and age. She needs a family familiar with the Anatolian Shepherd breed and comfortable with large to giant dogs.
Ongoing Health
No specific health conditions are noted.
Training & Support
Samantha can be stubborn due to her intelligence and requires positive reinforcement training. She needs a slow-feed bowl as she eats very quickly. She has a tendency to finish food left in other dogs' bowls, so grazing is not recommended. While she walks well on leash, she may need occasional correction for barking dogs.
