Annie's story could have gone very differently.
She came from a small local shelter where there were concerns that she might be dangerous to the community. But when we met her, we didn't see an aggressive dog - we saw a scared, overwhelmed little girl who had shut down in a stressful environment.
Thankfully, a foster stepped up, and Annie finally got the chance she needed.
And almost immediately, she started showing everyone who she really is.
Annie has blossomed into a sweet little shadow dog who wants nothing more than to be close to her people. When she first arrived, she was extremely skittish and would flinch when someone reached out to pet her. With patience and kindness, she's already making great progress and now actively seeks out affection and attention.
Her foster says Annie loves being near people and forms strong bonds quickly. In fact, she's so attached to her humans that being left alone can make her anxious. She does best when she can see or be near her people and will need a family willing to help her continue building confidence and independence.
Annie gets along well with other dogs and enjoys having canine companions around. She's still learning how to fully relax, play, and "join the pack," but she's making steady progress every day. She has shown some food guarding toward other dogs when she's eating, particularly because she's more of a grazer than a dog who finishes meals in one sitting. Feeding separately or supervising mealtimes is an easy way to help her succeed.
She's mostly house-trained with only a couple of accidents in foster care and is learning that going outside doesn't have to be scary. Annie prefers having her person nearby for reassurance and often looks to them for guidance and confidence.
Like many dogs coming from stressful situations, Annie needed time to decompress and feel safe before her personality could shine through. Every day she grows a little braver, a little more trusting, and a little more comfortable in the world around her.
Annie is looking for a patient, loving home that understands she's still healing from her past. In return, you'll get a loyal companion who will adore you with her whole heart and happily follow you from room to room.
