Combie is an approximately 75-pound, 14-month-old American Blue Bay Shepherd with a heart full of affection and a mind full of smarts! He was born on June 5, 2023, and has been recently neutered. Combie is a healthy boy, up-to-date on his core vaccinations and microchipped. He was purchased from Southern Breeze Kennels, the only legitimate breeder of Blue Bay Shepherds, and is a stunning example of this developing breed.
Combie is a social butterfly who adores meeting new people, whether at home or out and about. His family has done a wonderful job socializing him, and he enjoys visiting dog-friendly breweries and wineries. He’s great with the 10-year-old girl in his life and her friends, though he hasn't had much experience with younger children. He also gets along wonderfully with other dogs, showing playful and submissive behaviors, and he's not bothered by barking or aggressive dogs. However, he hasn't met any very small dogs and has a tendency to resource guard high-value food items like bully sticks. Combie also appears to have a strong prey drive, so a home without cats is strongly recommended.
Ideal Home
Combie thrives with a medium-energy lifestyle, needing two 20-30 minute walks daily, plus some playtime at home. He is fully housetrained and respects household rules, including staying out of the kitchen and off furniture. Ideally, Combie would sleep outdoors, in a garage, or in a separate space from humans for safety, as he has a fear of confinement at night and cannot be crated after dark. He also prefers to have other dogs nearby overnight as he doesn’t do well being alone.
Ongoing Health
Combie is up-to-date on vaccinations and microchipped. He has no ongoing health conditions.
Training & Support
Combie has had considerable formal obedience training and walks well on leash, though his off-leash recall could use some improvement. He has a history of nighttime fearfulness and aggression after dark, stemming from a house fire incident. While a professional behaviorist has helped tremendously to make evenings peaceful again, Combie can become aggressively fearful and bite if woken suddenly in the middle of the night (e.g., by lights turning on). This is the primary behavioral issue that requires careful management.
