About Pearlie

Pearlie is a 5-year-old, 50lb spayed female pittie mix with a striking snowy coat, soulful eyes, and a heart that's learning how to feel safe again. This beautiful, pointy-eared girl has come a long way in a short time. Once too scared to even come out of her kennel, she now trots out with growing confidence and is starting to show her affectionate, silly, and deeply loyal personality. She just needs a patient, understanding home to continue helping her blossom. Pearlie is affectionate, curious, playful, and incredibly loving once she trusts you. She loves her stuffies and will happily entertain herself, but her favorite activity might just be giving kisses – she's a certified serial licker. She bonds deeply with her people and thrives on that connection.

Ideal Home

Pearlie's ideal home is one that moves at her pace – calm, patient, and understanding of her journey. Someone who sees the beauty in a dog who needs a little extra time and who will celebrate every small win along the way. She would do best in a calmer environment where she can continue to decompress and feel secure at her own pace. She absolutely adores kids and has lived with children ranging from 3 to 18 years old, though supervision with smaller kiddos is recommended as she can get a little jumpy when excited. Pearlie prefers to do her own thing around other dogs and isn't much of a player, but she coexists well with dogs in the 50-80 lb range. Slow, structured meet-and-greets are important.

Ongoing Health

Pearlie is spayed and up to date on vaccinations.

Training & Support

Pearlie is fully house-trained and does great in a crate, typically sleeping quietly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. She eats in her crate and feels most comfortable having her own space during mealtime and when enjoying treats. Leash walking is a work in progress, and she may react similarly on leash to how she does during introductions. With consistency and patience, she'll continue to improve and gain confidence out in the world. When meeting strangers, Pearlie can be fearful; she may bark or avoid. This comes from her past, not her heart. She has likely experienced physical abuse, and while she has already made incredible progress, she will need time, patience, and a gentle approach to continue building trust. She's also nervous in the car and a bit scared of the dark outside, but with support, she's steadily gaining confidence.
