Dora

Dora is a charming 4-year-old spayed American Akita, weighing around 63 lbs. She's a loyal and affectionate companion who truly blossoms with a predictable routine. Dora is wonderfully house-trained and comfortable in a wire kennel. She's a gem when it comes to grooming, tolerating nail trims like a champ and even baths (though she's not a fan of dremeling). Brushing is a definite favorite! She has a special fondness for children and remains remarkably calm amidst noise and chaos, though she still deserves to be treated with respect. While she might be a little reserved with new people at first, Dora forms deep bonds once she feels secure, often settling down and even napping in the presence of guests.

Dora would thrive in a structured home environment that respects her boundaries, maintains a consistent routine, and is committed to continuing her training and building her confidence. She enjoys outdoor time, particularly in a fenced yard.

Training & Support

Dora absolutely loves training and is highly motivated by toys, treats, and praise! She's a very trainable dog who responds beautifully to positive reinforcement and consistent guidance. She has a strong foundation in commands like sit, down, wait, stay, and impulse control for doorways, among many others. She is learning "Paw" and "Heel." She also knows "Leave it" and "Stop" for leash walking. Dora is muzzle trained for situations involving other dogs. While she may bark at strangers, she is not human-aggressive. She should not interact with unfamiliar dogs, especially when on leash, due to a history of dog aggression.
