Opal

Opal is an approximately 8-year-old female dog, weighing around 60 lbs. She's thought to be a Shar-Pei or Chow mix with perhaps some Shepherd in her. Opal came to us when her owner passed away and her spouse didn't want her. She had been living outside tied to a chain for years in the Houston heat, but surprisingly, she is housebroken and has wonderful house manners, suggesting she may have been a house dog at some point in her life. She enjoys a bit of playtime with other dogs but mostly prefers to snuggle in her bed and chill. Opal loves food and has gained weight since arriving in rescue. She has been treated for all other parasites and fleas and has come a long way in a year. She would love to spend her golden years being pampered by her own family.

Ideal Home

Opal would be a great companion for an elderly person looking for a buddy to hang out with. She does not do well with cats or livestock.

Ongoing Health

Opal is elderly and is currently being treated for heartworms.

Training & Support

Opal is good in the house, uses a dog door, and does not need to be crated when her owners are away.
