Meet Sanford!
This 8-year-old, 5-pound little guy is brimming with personality! Sanford came to us as a stray, and while his past is a mystery, it's clear he's experienced some fear. He's naturally nervous around new people and in unfamiliar settings. He's never shown aggression, but his instinct is to flee when he feels scared. Sanford needs a patient adopter who understands that building trust takes time. The wonderful news is, once Sanford feels secure, he blossoms into a loving cuddle bug who cherishes closeness with his person. Getting down on his level, speaking in a soft voice, and allowing him to approach on his own terms are fantastic ways to help him feel safe.
Ideal Home
Sanford thrives in a calm environment with a predictable routine. He would do best in a home without children. A confident, gentle small dog similar in size to him would be a great companion and role model. He gets along wonderfully with other small dogs, but larger dogs tend to be too intimidating for him.
Ongoing Health
Sanford is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, has had a heartworm check, and is on flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.
Training & Support
Sanford is crate trained and reliably uses potty pads. He enjoys having his own cozy space. While leash walks might not be in his immediate future, he'd likely enjoy accompanying his person in a secure dog sling to build his confidence. With patience and time, he might eventually be ready for quiet walks in low-traffic areas. His adopters should be prepared to celebrate his progress and understand that feeling safe is a gift he needs.

- You must be at least 21-years-old to adopt.

Transporation
Sanford is located in Bloomington, IL. We do not ship; you would need to travel to pick him up if you live out of state.
