Ray Charles is one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. He's visually impaired, which means he experiences the world a little differently than most dogs. Despite the loud, busy, and overwhelming shelter environment, Ray remains incredibly affectionate and eager for human connection. When he realizes you're there, his whole demeanor changes. He loves people and seeks out affection, often whining with excitement when someone stops to give him scratches. Ray is a full-body scratch kind of guy and would happily stand there soaking up every bit of love and attention you can give. Because of his vision impairment, Ray can startle easily if approached unexpectedly. He feels most comfortable when he's given a chance to sniff and get to know someone first. Once he knows you're a friend, though, his affectionate and curious personality shines through. He loves investigating new scents, gently taking treats from your hand, and learning about you. Ray has met other dogs and shown friendly interest, but because he relies on different cues than most dogs, introductions should be done slowly and thoughtfully. He needs a chance to trade the uncertainty of shelter life for the comfort of a home where he can learn the layout, recognize familiar voices, follow comforting scents, and finally relax.
