About Wilson

Wilson is a charming Poodle-Havanese mix, about a year and a half old, who was found abandoned and in rough condition. Despite a challenging start, he's a resilient pup with a perpetually wagging tail. Wilson has juvenile cataracts and is partially blind, but veterinary specialists believe his long-distance vision will gradually improve. He's currently on daily anti-inflammatory eye drops and requires bi-annual check-ups with a veterinary ophthalmologist.

Ideal Home

Wilson would thrive in a home where his adopters are patient and understanding as he can be shy with strangers. He's a big fan of string cheese and will readily offer his affection once he feels comfortable. He absolutely loves car rides, walks well on a leash, and has excellent off-leash recall. He also does well in his crate and is easy to groom. Due to his strong scent drive and prey drive around livestock, he cannot be placed in a home with goats. Additionally, secure fencing is a must.

Ongoing Health

Wilson is partially blind due to juvenile cataracts, but his vision is expected to improve over time. He requires daily anti-inflammatory eye drops and needs to see a veterinary ophthalmologist every six months for check-ups. He has been vaccinated, tested negative for heartworm, and is neutered. His nails have also been regularly trimmed while in foster care.

Training & Support

Wilson is known to mark, so he will likely need a belly band indefinitely in the house. He has a strong prey drive, particularly around livestock, so homes with goats are not suitable. Once he bonds with his person, he is very easy to handle. He enjoys treats, playing with toys, hiking, and wrestling with his dog friends. He plays well with most dogs but can be selective with large, male dogs.
