Ritchey Roo, affectionately known as Richard, is an approximately 5-6 year old hound mix who embodies exuberance and a laid-back charm. He's a people-loving canine who enjoys both lounging and bursts of energetic play. Ritchey is house-trained and can comfortably spend time alone. While he can be a quiet companion, he transforms into a jubilant pup at the sight of a leash or when you arrive home. He's also a gentle soul, but can get overly excited, especially around food or when a walk is imminent, leading to jumping and enthusiastic greetings. Ritchey has a charming vocal streak when he has something to say, adding to his unique personality. He came to us underweight and, at 90 lbs, could benefit from a diet and increased physical activity. Ritchey enjoys sleeping in bed with his humans and has learned the command "OVER" to give everyone a little more space. He's not particularly interested in toys or fetch, but he loves car rides and walks, though he will require some leash training as he's a strong puller. Ultimately, Ritchey would be content lounging around the house and running in a yard. He enjoys your company but is also independent enough not to be a constant shadow. Ritchey has adapted well to foster and boarding environments, being easy to care for and good company. We're unsure of his feelings towards other dogs, but he has disregarded a senior dog who fussed at him and has been non-reactive to other dogs at boarding facilities, even friendly through fencing. However, his overwhelming excitement has led to him being declined from daycare. Given his history as a stray and then surrendered by a loving family, we believe Ritchey would thrive as the sole, spoiled pup in a home. He's a deeply lovable boy who is sure to be a fabulous companion for the right person or people.
