About Holly The Best Family Dog

If Holly could write her own job title, it would be: Professional Toy Collector + Zoomie Specialist + Booty-Scratch Enthusiast. Ask her about her hobbies and she would say foodie! She gets told everyday that she has the kind of happy energy that makes everyday better and everyone smile. She is sunshine with a bunny hop, toy-loving, giggle-generator, kid loving, belly flopping girl! Holly is estimated to be just shy of 4 years old, weighs 60 lbs, and is likely a pittie/staffie mix. You'll see it when you look at that barrel-shaped body we love to snuggle. Holly is one of those dogs that when you ask someone to tell you about her they say Oh my gosh, where do I start! with a big ol smile on their face. Anyone who knows her will tell you Holly is all-in and always a good time! She's wiggly, affectionate, and truly lights up for people. She's also got a smart side under all that sparkle. Holly has a solid head start on basics like sit and come, and she even knows drop it (which is extra impressive for a dog who believes toys are a lifestyle). One of her favorite things to do is grab her beloved stuffies and settle in to happily gnaw on them, sometimes even giving them a little defluffing project. In the evenings, Holly naturally winds down and joins everyone on the couch to watch TV. She loves to be close to her people, whether that means resting beside you or gently leaning in for cuddles. She is not demanding; she just enjoys being included. She will bounce from person to person to see who is available for some cuddles. Holly lives in a busy household with four children ages 3, 5, 12, and 14, and does fantastic with all of them. In the home, there is also a 17-year-old with special needs (Down syndrome and autism), and Holly shows wonderful patience and acceptance of energy, movement, and louder sounds. She handles the environment with ease and never showed concern. She often approaches Ruthie and gives her kisses. Holly's ability to handle all sorts of environments is one of our favorite things about her. You will often find Holly playing fetch, learning new commands, or laying next to the kids throughout the day. She fits in seamlessly without adding to the hustle and bustle of the home. She is also very welcoming with visitors. Holly does not bark when people enter the home and has never shown concerns with guests, even in a busy household. She settles quickly and continues on with her day. One of her favorite parts of the day is when Grandpa comes home! She eagerly awaits his arrival and makes sure to get extra belly scratches from him! Holly is crate trained and will go into her crate when asked. She rides beautifully in the car and handles routine changes well, making her an easy companion for everyday life. Food is definitely one of Holly's favorite topics. She loves her treats and takes them very gently. If you're cooking, she will happily volunteer as your sous chef, sitting nearby to supervise. You can have her sit next to you and watch, or ask her to step out of the kitchen; either way, she will be there to observe. With other dogs, Holly is social and confident! Holly is currently fostered with a small male terrier mix and an older, more dominant female dog. She is mindful and respectful when they do not want to play and does a nice job sharing space. She reads other dogs well and adjusts her behavior appropriately. But Holly would also really enjoy a friend she can play with. She loves going to playgroup and visiting her favorite friends. Her best playmates are ones who can match or at least appreciate her rowdy, happy, bouncy play style. She is used regularly in behavior assessments for new incoming rescue dogs because of how consistent and reliable she is meeting new dogs. Whether it is an on-leash greeting or being dropped into a playgroup, Holly is confident and keeps things fun. If joining a home with another dog, Holly will bring the party, as long as her new buddy speaks bounce fluently. Holly's love of toys cannot be breezed over. She loves toys so much that there is genuinely not a single type of toy she would turn down. From a ball to a stuffie, a squeaky something to a plain 'ol stick, she is going to trot around with it looking as goofy and happy as possible. With a stuffie, the bigger and softer the better, especially if it doesn't quite fit in her mouth, because then she trots around barely able to see over the toy and your giggles will be hard to contain. On a sunny day, she will show you her signature move, what we call a happy-flop. She'll shell fetch her favorite stick or rubber toy, plop it down like it's precious cargo, then dramatically roll all over it in the grass, belly to the sky, with a huge pittie smile on her face. Holly has a solid head start on her basics like sit, come, and drop it, and she has good leash manners. At her strongest, she can be described as a sturdy walker, but she respects her handler when expectations are clear. What makes Holly truly special is how easy she is to live with. She settles into home life quickly, enjoys routine, and genuinely wants to be part of a family.
