Petey is a sweet, loving, and active pup! He was scheduled to be euthanized at a local shelter when staff reached out to us about this shy boy who was afraid of leashes. The shelter staff believed he may have had a negative experience involving leashes in his past, as he would duck and shake when they were brought out, but he was a happy, wiggle-butt puppy when leashes weren't present. Petey's foster parents describe him as faithful and loving, always wanting to be with his people. He's very active and would thrive in a home with a large yard and an equally active dog companion. While he plays well with other dogs off-leash, he can be a bit nervous and protective on-leash. Petey has undergone several training sessions and is smart and eager to please. He would do best with adults who are committed to continuing his training, especially with his leash anxiety, and who can help him understand that people and leashes can be good. He's still a puppy working through his fears and needs someone willing to invest time and love to help him overcome his past.
Ideal Home
Petey would do best in a home with a large yard and a family that is active. He would also love to have another equally active young dog to play with. He has not been around cats or children.
Ongoing Health
No specific ongoing health conditions are mentioned.
Training & Support
Petey is working on his fear of leashes and can be nervous and a bit protective of his people around other dogs while on leash. He would benefit from continued training to help him overcome his anxiety. He can be "too much" for older or less active dogs. We highly encourage obedience/behavior training for all of our pups once adopted.
