Harlem is a genuinely sweet, handler-focused boy who wears his heart on his sleeve. He was found as a stray and brought to us on April 8th after being abandoned at a hotel. He loves attention, cuddles up readily, and has a puppyish energy that makes him endearing. He'll follow you around the yard with soft eyes and a wagging tail, and he's been known to lay his head on the bench for some quiet one-on-one time. He does have some manners to work on – he can be a little jumpy and mouthy, and he's snatchy with treats so feeding on the ground is recommended – but he's food motivated and eager to learn. Volunteers have already seen him pick up basic commands like "sit." His time in an overnight foster confirmed what staff have observed: he's a wonderful houseguest who settles in quickly, loves people, and is genuinely one of those dogs who just wants to be near you. Harlem has also met other dogs in the shelter and was tolerant, but he preferred to stay close to his handler.
Ideal Home
Harlem would love a home where he can be close to his people. He is still learning some manners and could benefit from continued positive reinforcement and guidance.
Ongoing Health
Harlem has lost some weight during his stay with us and is currently experiencing diarrhea that has not improved with probiotics. We've found that an extra meal during the day has helped him regain some weight. If his diarrhea doesn't improve or he struggles to continue gaining weight, he may need further veterinary evaluation and treatment.
Training & Support
Harlem can be a bit jumpy and mouthy, and he's a little snatchy with treats, so feeding him on the ground is recommended. He is very food motivated and eager to learn, and has already picked up basic commands like "sit." He would benefit from continued training and socialization.
