Flora, a 3-year-old spayed female Carolina Dog mix weighing 46 pounds, is a playful and energetic girl looking for her forever home! Affectionately known as Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, she absolutely loves to wrestle and play chase. She's demonstrated an ability to interact with dogs of various sizes, from a 35-pound Cocker Spaniel to a 60-pound Pyrenees mix. Flora is a total love bug who enjoys snuggling and sunbathing. She's also a smart cookie who loves learning new tricks and is very submissive and affectionate. Flora does well in the car, but she is terrified of storms and will seek shelter.
Ideal Home
Flora would do best in a moderately active home with someone who is often around, enjoys walks or jogs, and will play fetch with her. She'd thrive with no other pets or a well-balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level. While she adores the 8-year-old child in her foster home, she is nervous around new children and prefers an adult household due to some "stranger danger" with new people.
Ongoing Health
Flora has no known ongoing health conditions.
Training & Support
Flora can exhibit leash reactivity, showing behaviors like raised hair, whimpering, and barking. Her foster parents have been working with her using positive reinforcement and minimal stimuli, and she walks much better in calm environments. Consistent training will be beneficial for her leash skills and for helping her feel more comfortable around new dogs and stimuli. She has shown some anxiety in a crate at home, but has no issues when boarded. She needs gentle reminders to take treats.
