A little about them
Emilio is a small male Chihuahua who needs time, patience, and a gentle approach to build trust. Once he feels safe, he becomes a happy, affectionate companion who greets people with a wagging tail, a sniff, and sometimes a little lick. After trust is earned, he is fiercely devoted to his person.
Ideal Home
- A patient adopter who understands that bonding may take months.
- A calm home where people approach him gently and allow him to retreat to a safe place.
- A secure home with careful door management—Emilio is a high flight risk and may slip out.
- He seems to like children who approach him calmly.
- He is compatible with other dogs, including dogs of varying sizes. His compatibility with cats has not been tested.
Training & Support
- Emilio may initially be terrified, run and hide, bark when someone new approaches, or become nippy if cornered.
- He is usually reliable about going to the door when he needs to go outside and has shown few marking behaviors. He wears a belly band indoors, which is usually clean and dry.
- He has not yet been tried on walks, and leash training is still a work in progress.
- He enjoys toys, rearranging his dog bed, cuddling, and sitting in a chair with his person. He will sleep in his own bed if needed.
- Emilio is a picky eater and prefers plain kibble with a little bone broth and possibly salmon oil. His foster reports that he eats about 1/2 cup twice daily and prefers not to be watched while eating.
