Parka is a middle-aged, 44-pound, short and stocky mixed breed with a truly remarkable story. She was once facing euthanasia due to being labeled "reactive" at a shelter, but a groundswell of support and the kindness of foster angels saved her. Little did everyone know, Parka was pregnant and close to labor, which explained her "reactivity." Sadly, due to her condition not being recognized, she received vaccines that led to complications, and only one of her puppies survived. She was a devoted mother to her little one, who has since found his forever home. Parka then underwent heartworm treatment and, during her subsequent spay surgery, was found to have two mammary tumors. Thankfully, after biopsies and removal, it was determined that one was benign and the other cancerous, but it had not spread, and Parka is now cancer-free. She has truly blossomed in her foster home and is ready to find her own loving and peaceful forever family.
Ideal Home
Parka thrives with the company of another dog, so a canine companion in her forever home is required. She looks to her foster sibling for reassurance when she encounters new smells or loud noises. Parka is a little shy around men and strangers but deeply affectionate with her foster mom. She is house-trained, crate-trained, and can be taken outside for potty breaks on a leash, though she remains nervous on walks. A calm, loving, and peaceful environment with gentle, patient, and loving adopters is essential for her continued happiness.
Ongoing Health
Parka has completed heartworm treatment and has had mammary tumors surgically removed. She is currently cancer-free and in great health, with plenty of life left to live.
Training & Support
Parka is house-trained and crate-trained. While she can use a leash for potty breaks, she is still nervous on walks and would benefit from continued positive reinforcement and patience. Her confidence is boosted by the presence of another dog.
