Meet Penny, a spirited 2-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix who's ready to fill your life with love and adventure! This 62-pound sweetheart has a bright personality, a huge heart, and an endless supply of affection to give. Penny is looking for a special human to share her zest for life with.
Ideal Home
Penny thrives in an active environment where she can stay engaged and close to her people. She'd love an adopter who enjoys walks, hikes, runs, or sniffy adventures, as she's at her best with consistent mental and physical outlets. Given her exuberance and herding instincts, a home with older teens or adults who understand dog behavior and can help channel her energy would be ideal. Due to prey-driven behavior observed outdoors, a cat-free home is recommended.
Ongoing Health
Penny is a healthy and spayed female. As with many dogs who may have experienced past trauma, she can be protective of her space and high-value items like food or toys around other dogs. Her foster is managing this by separating her at mealtime and during treat time, and she has made great progress with clear boundaries and respectful management.
Training & Support
Penny is fully house-trained and has done well when confined to a designated area when home alone, though she is still learning to be fully comfortable with separation. She prefers to be close to her people and may whine or bark when separated, stemming from her strong bond with her humans. She has not been crate-trained. She is learning to settle during leash walks with guidance. While she can come on a bit strong during play with other dogs, she is doing best with confident, medium-to-large dogs who can set healthy boundaries. She has a soft spot for chewing on dog beds when bored. Penny flinches easily and needs reassurance and calm, consistent care.
