Meet Pumpkin and Ginger, a bonded pair of sweet Shih Tzu sisters who are ready to fill your home with love and gentle snuggles! Pumpkin is a black, 9-year-old gal, and her sister Ginger is a pewter-colored, 8-year-old beauty. These two little ladies, each weighing around 10 lbs, are inseparable and are looking for a home where they can live out their golden years together.
These two came to us a few months ago when their previous owners could no longer care for them. Despite their past, Pumpkin and Ginger are incredibly affectionate and have adjusted wonderfully.
Ideal Home
Pumpkin and Ginger would thrive in a patient, quiet home environment. They love a regular routine and appreciate a peaceful atmosphere. A small, fenced yard would be ideal, as they prefer to do their business off-leash. Due to their size and special medical needs, homes with small children or overly energetic dogs may not be the best fit. They do well with other calm dogs and have shown no interest in cats.
Ongoing Health
Both Pumpkin and Ginger have chronic skin and ear issues, which are common for their breed. They are responding well to their current care routine and have made great improvements.
Pumpkin has been diagnosed with retinal detachment and will eventually lose the sight in both eyes. She also has dry eye and requires daily eye drops. She is expected to adjust well to her vision loss and can learn voice commands.
Their ongoing care includes:
- Weekly medicated baths (sometimes twice a week during flare-ups)
- Regular use of topical medicated sprays/wipes
- Occasional ear cleanings
- Consistent grooming and haircuts
- A special, chicken-free diet to manage skin sensitivities. Their meals consist of fish-based kibble, peas, carrots, green beans, ground beef, Greek yogurt, omega oil, and probiotics.
Both girls recently had dental work, are spayed, microchipped, and are up to date on all vaccinations and preventatives.
Training & Support
Pumpkin and Ginger are mostly housebroken and are crate-trained. They can be trusted alone at home and sleep well through the night. While Ginger is generally cooperative with her care, Pumpkin can be a bit more opinionated, but both are incredibly sweet and loving. Pumpkin will need time to adjust to her gradual vision loss and will benefit from learning voice commands.
